The Genius is given a new lease on life in the a pages of The Liberty Brigade. In his new retcon origin story, his secret identity is Leopold Stralovski, a petty thief who just finished a stretch for peddling stolen goods. A career change seemed in order, so he gave breaking and entering a shot. However, Stralovski seemed inadequate of his well-being because his name wasn't so menacing. Neglecting to bring a flashlight, a misstep sent Leopold plunging into a botched chemical mix which reacted unexpectedly with the cheap cologne he always heavily doused himself with and transformed and enhanced intelligent rather than death or any number of different types of cancers occurred. Now calling himself The Genius, he became a second-rate super-villain who never knew success and whom even villains feared to work with as they knew his plans would end badly.... for them. The Genius even fought against The Black Terror.
