I was going to make this a thread, but it doesn't matter. I might be in the minority here, but when was the last time this character was actually great??? Let me ask you this; when was the last great video game? 2005 (Ultimate). FACT. TV? 2008 for sure (Spectacular). FACT. and lets not get into the movies, the last good one was made in 2004 (SM 2). FACT. When were the mainstream comics last great (on a consistent monthly basis)? We're talking 2007. FACT. I was in grade five back then, now in my third year of University to put that into perspective for anyone. Wanna know why I consider each fact? Because each thing I mentioned was not only the best of the superhero genre, but were standalone great in their own medium, they each held their own. Sure what I'm saying is completely subjective, probably very arrogant also, but if the general consensus is on my side, than that must be saying something.
Let's face it now; today, Spider-Man is f@#$ing trash. Pure and utter trash. We're talking about a character whose only redeemable qualities are from a TV show cancelled in 2009 and couple of solid side comics; one that's a newspaper strip, the other not even set in the main continuity (RYV).
We live in the year 2017, where Captain America of all characters made more at the box office and fared a lot better with critics. Fifteen years ago that never would have happened. This is an era where f@#$ing Batman is not just the face of the greatest superhero games of all time, but games as whole in general. Arkham City is one of the best games I've ever played and yet it frustrated me how Spider-Man was not receiving the same treatment. Credit to Rocksteady, who not only revolutionized the entire superhero genre, but the entire gaming industry.
At the end of the day, maybe it just perplexes me how some hack can proudly publish: 'The Superior Octopus' and get away with it. What a time to be a Spider-Man fan...
I guess I'm done with this character for now, until things improve across all borders at least. It doesn't matter and it's no loss to anyone, but you guys are the true fans, because I can't follow this anymore. The only strength this character has now is in it's brand name with children and die hard followers. When I think of Spider-Man, I think of his great stories from over a decade ago. All that's left is the character of Peter Parker; his strength, his morals and values that I've always admired. Because that's all he been stripped to.
