Below is the complete list of comic book series and trade collections that follow Agent Venom's career in the mainstream Marvel Universe, organized in chronological order. Titles with bold names are the most recommended to read. Agent Venom's tenure can be divided into two adventure eras:
Earth Adventures
- Amazing Spider-Man: Matters of Life and Death — Flash Thompson first appeared as the new host of the Venom symbiote in Amazing Spider-Man #654 and 654.1. This volume collects these issues, though it may be better to collect the single issues.
- Venom, Vol. 1* — Collects Venom (Vol. 2) #1–5. Agent Venom's first solo run.
- Spider-Man: Spider-Island, Vol. 1* — The best and only way to experience Venom (Vol. 2) #6–9 besides getting Vol. 1 of the Complete Collection. If you're not going the Complete Collection route of TPB collecting, think of this as the unofficial Venom (Vol. 2), Vol. 2 (not to be confused with…).
- Venom, Vol. 2: Circle of Four* — Collects Venom (Vol. 2) #10–13, 13.1–13.4, and 14. Agent Venom, X-23, Red Hulk, and Ghost Rider (Alejandra) team up to take on a Hell on Earth in Las Vegas.
- Secret Avengers by Rick Remender, Vol. 1 — Collects Secret Avengers (Vol. 1) #21.1 and 22–25. Agent Venom joins the Secret Avengers at the end of Circle of Four.
- Carnage U.S.A., Vol. 1 — Collects Carnage U.S.A. #1–5. Agent Venom is called in as a Secret Avenger to take out Carnage when all else fails.
- Venom, Vol. 3: The Savage Six* — Collects Venom (Vol. 2) #15–22. For you Eddie Brock fans, this is when he becomes Toxin.
- Secret Avengers by Rick Remender, Vol. 2 — Collects Secret Avengers (Vol. 1) #26–32.
- Venom, Vol. 4: Devil's Pack — Collects Venom (Vol. 2) #23–25 and 28–30. This is the volume where writers change from Rick Remender to Cullen Bunn, so no more Remender Complete Collections after Vol. 2.
- Secret Avengers by Rick Remender, Vol. 3 — Collects Secret Avengers (Vol. 1) #33–37. Agent Venom leaves the team at the end of this arc.
- Thunderbolts, Vol. 1: No Quarter — Collects Thunderbolts (Vol. 2) #1–6. Agent Venom joins Red Hulk's Thunderbolts. Agent Venom's tenure with the Thunderbolts is almost universally pined by Venom fans, so collect at your own risk.
- Minimum Carnage, Vol. 1 — Collects Venom (Vol. 2) #26–27. Agent Venom and Scarlet Spider (Kaine) team up to chase Carnage through the Microverse. Interjects with Venom (Vol. 2), Vol. 4.
- Venom, Vol. 5: Toxin with a Vengeance! — Collects Venom (Vol. 2) #31–35. Arguably the best Flash vs. Brock fight story in the series.
- Venom, Vol. 6: The Land Where Killers Dwell — Collects Venom (Vol. 2) #36–42 and 27.1. This closes the chapter on Agent Venom's first solo run and introduces Mania, a new (and underused) symbiote on the block.
- Thunderbolts, Vol. 2: Red Scare — Collects Thunderbolts (Vol. 2) #7–12.
- Thunderbolts, Vol. 3: Infinity — Collects Thunderbolts (Vol. 2) #13–19.
- Superior Spider-Man, Vol. 5: Superior Venom — Collects Superior Spider-Man #22–26 and Annual #1. Spider-Man becomes the Superior Venom for a short while after he takes the symbiote from Flash, but returns it in the end.
- Thunderbolts, Vol. 4: No Mercy — Collects Thunderbolts (Vol. 2) #20.NOW–26. Agent Venom leaves the team.
* You can get these volumes collected in the following big trade collections:
Cosmic Adventures
- Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3: Guardians Disassembled* — Collects Guardians of the Galaxy (Vol. 3) #14–17; Marvel Free Comic Book Day 2014 #1; Amazing Spider-Man #654 (B-story); and Captain Marvel (Vol. 1) #1. Agent Venom joins the Guardians of the Galaxy.
- Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 4: Original Sin* — Collects Guardians of the Galaxy (Vol. 3) #18–23 and Annual #1. Agent Venom is absent in issues #18–20. Agent Venom and the Guardians visit the (actual) symbiote homeworld, Klyntar, and Agent Venom receives his "Space Knight" upgrade.
- Guardians of the Galaxy & X-Men: Black Vortex, Vol. 1* — Collects Guardians of the Galaxy & X-Men: The Black Vortex Alpha #1, Guardians of the Galaxy (Vol. 3) #24-25, Legendary Star-Lord #9-11, All-New X-Men #38-39, Guardians Team-Up #2, Nova (Vol. 5) #28, Cyclops (Vol. 3) #12, Captain Marvel (Vol. 9) #14, and Guardians of the Galaxy & X-Men: The Black Vortex Omega #1. Probably not worth the investment; Agent Venom is relegated to the background in a small handful of issues.
- Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 1: New Guard - Emperor Quill — Collects Guardians of the Galaxy (Vol. 4) #1-5. Agent Venom is, again, a background character. Not really worth collecting.
- Venom: Space Knight, Vol. 1: Agent of the Cosmos — Collects Venom: Space Knight #1-6. Agent Venom sets off on his solo cosmic adventure. It's definitely a different beat from the old Agent Venom days; he really lives that "Space Knight" title. You'll either love it or hate it.
- Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2: New Guard - Wanted — Collects Guardians of the Galaxy (Vol. 4) #6-10. Issue #8 focuses on Agent Venom and Groot, so it has that going for it.
- Venom: Space Knight, Vol. 2: Enemies and Allies — Collects Venom: Space Knight #7-13.
* You can get these volumes collected in the following big trade collection:
- Guardians of the Galaxy By Brian Michael Bendis Omnibus, Vol. 1 — Collect Avengers Assemble (Vol. 2) #1-8, Guardians of the Galaxy (Vol. 3) #0.1, 1-27, and Annual #1, Guardians of the Galaxy: Tomorrow's Avengers #1, All-New X-Men (Vol. 1) #22-24, Guardians of Knowhere (Vol. 1) #1-4, Guardians Team-Up #1-2, and Free Comic Book Day 2014 (Guardians of the Galaxy) #1.
Other Recommended Non-Canon Reading
The following recommended readings are not canon to Agent Venom's mainstream-universe story, but are fun to follow.
- Spider-Island: Warzones!, Vol. 1 — Collects Spider-Island: Warzones! #1-5. Takes place during the 2014-2015 Secret Wars crossover event. In this alternate universe patched to Battleworld, the Spider-Queen succeeded in taking over Manhattan during the Spider-Island event. Agent Venom becomes the leader of the Resistance.
- Guardians of Knowhere: Warzones!, Vol. 1 — Collects Guardians of Knowhere: Warzones! #1-5. This is a sort-of filler between the GotG series before Secret Wars and the GotG series that came after. In this alternate universe patched to Battleworld, Agent Venom is a member of the Nova Corps that polices Knowhere.
