    Origin

Master Roshi was the world's greatest martial artist until he trained the world's greatest hero Goku. Master Roshi is a turtle hermit who lives on Small island in the middle of the Ocean called Kame island. Master Roshi met Son Goku and Bulma after he returned Turtle back to Kame island. As a gift Roshi gave Goku a flying nimbus. Later on Master Roshi decided to train Goku as his student after seeing his great potential by attempting Master Roshis Kamehameha wave. Roshi later decided to take another student in under his tutelage named Krillin. For the next 3 years Roshi trained Goku and Krillin for the world martial arts tournament. Goku eventually left for a year to train on his own.

    Powers and Abilities

Master Roshi is the head and founder of the Turtle School and at one point the Worlds most powerful man. Roshi has developed a great number of martial and energy attacks making him very versital in battle, though his age can hamper him in battle with more youthful opponents. Roshi is shown to be an insightful and wise, if perverted, master. Roshi, disguised as Jackie Chun, was able to defeat both his students and become the World Champion at an advanced age. While later eclipsed by his students and retiring from active fighting by the end of Dragonball, Roshi remains a powerful master and way ahead of any normal human in terms of skill and power. In Dragonball Super it seems Master Roshi has been keeping up with his training in secret as he has caught up with his former students. While mind controlled and not holding back Roshi defeated Tien Shinhan and matched up to a base form Goku and even got Goku excited at the prospect of an actual fight with his former master.
