It’s been a long time since we’ve updated the list of current Mods. Here you’ll find a list of all the active Mods and the areas in which they specialize.

Each mod's profile is linked to their name. Feel free to ask questions and get to know us. Also, feel free to follow each mod so that you can see when each is online in case you have a problem.

Some of us check in more regularly than others; if you have an issue, you may want to PM or tag all the Mods in that area. We are dedicated to maintaining the standards of behavior and excellence of content on this site, but please understand that we all do this on a volunteer basis and in our free time. We have school, jobs, families, and other responsibilities we also need to take care of IRL—thank you in advance for your patience as you wait for a response.

If you have a question, it is probably better to PM the specific Mods who specialize in that topic than to use the “all Mod” PM button on the right of your screen, but feel free to use the “all Mod” link if necessary.

Each mod was asked to respond to the following prompts:

  1. Time zone
  2. What do you moderate
  3. How long have you have been a moderator
  4. How long have you have been on the site
  5. Favorite comic characters
  6. Favorite writer and artist
  7. School major/profession/life's ambitions
  8. Something about yourself (that one time you got paid to play music, that one time you almost died by falling off a cliff, that one time you got mistaken for a porn star in Vegas, or whatevs)

Some Mods didn’t answer the questions, and prefer to keep their private info private. They’re simply listed here by name.

This list will be updated as needed; Mods, let me know if you want me to change your info or status.

Credit to Renchamp, who created the previous version of this thread and its questions.

  9. Funny you should use that example as that almost did happen to be on a school skiing trip when I was around 14. We on the top of a mountain on a red slope and a snowboarder came flipping over from the other side of the hill, he crashed into my friend, I started laughing before realising I was in the way, they crashed into me, we went tumbling down towards the edge where there was no safety net so me being the genius I am decided to slow us down by…holding out my gloves hand on the snow, dramatic as hell until I stopped being dumb and swung my skis over on the snow, stopping about 20 feet from the edge. I went ballistic at the guy and our teacher sent me back to the hotel for swearing. Also as a side, I used to compete in karate competitions and hold titles in British, World and European events

Happy to see.

@owie Your a teacher? Wow. Shocked you have time for CV. I do have some questions if you are interested.

Thoughts on concurrent learning?

Homework, good or bad?

Are Youtube videos good for explanations?

Are final exams a good way to measure academic skills?

@owie Your a teacher? Wow. Shocked you have time for CV. I do have some questions if you are interested.

It is one reason I can't be on 24/7, that's for sure. But sure, I can answer these.

Thoughts on concurrent learning?

Concurrent learning is tough for both the students and teachers. It can be done well under optimal conditions, but those are rarely present. In recent situations it was often the only option, but I wouldn't recommend it in normal circumstances unless the work for the day really fit it well. In some art circumstances, like I have had for some classes, when you're having people just work on their art on their own, it's OK.

Homework, good or bad?

There are some studies that show that the more someone works on something, the better they get at it (this includes normal academic stuff, not just art). For instance, schools with longer hours tend to show more student academic improvement than schools with shorter hours. So from that point of view, homework should be good. However, other studies show that homework doesn't do a lot. (Yet more studies show that some homework over the summer reduces summer slide.) The different results may be the difference between working under supervision and working on your own. From my art perspective, I believe that the main way people get better at art is just by doing a lot of it, so I do believe in art homework.

Are Youtube videos good for explanations?

Yes, some are very good. Using them all the time in class is kind of lazy, but sometimes the visual effects beat out anything you can do in person. In-person may also be better depending on how well the instructor works the room--for instance, if the instructor regularly asks students to re-explain what they just learned, etc., that kind of reinforcement is helpful to learning. And of course some subjects are better for videos than others, and some people learn better from watching videos vs reading, etc. If I take cosplay technique as an example, there are some things I prefer to learn about by reading instructions, and some I prefer to watch videos for, and some where I like to have both resources to compare and contrast when something is confusing.

Are final exams a good way to measure academic skills?

Studies show that the process of studying for a test helps someone improve their knowledge of a subject. For instance, when I took art history classes, I definitely only memorized hundreds of artists' names, titles, and dates by studying them for tests, and I still more or less remember them now. I would never have remembered them if I had just gotten a list of them and didn't have to do anything with them, or even if I had to do some kind of paper or creative project with a small selection of them. Helping to remember things is not quite the same as how well tests measure skills, but it does imply that testing can be helpful. I do think testing can measure someone's learning or insight though. I personally wouldn't save it all up for a final exam, however. I'd go for multiple short quizzes if I was going to use some form of testing. It's better to not stress people out so much, and also studies have shown that giving a few big tests leads to worse results for students from marginalized populations because they often have more trouble at home that causes challenges studying for or even physically getting to the test. So if you have multiple small tests, those students are more likely to only take a small hit to their grade after missing a couple small ones, as opposed to possibly taking a huge hit to their grade by missing the big one.

@owie Does this mean that there are no longer admins or staff on here? Also, I understand that my best bet is to message a moderator if there is mod abuse of power, but this is exceedingly confusing as well as worrisome because I know that a lot of mods are friends. It would be helpful if there was a person that I know will be partial and righteous.

@redheathen: There are no staff/admins that work directly on Comic Vine as a specific part of their job although there are some that we check in with if we really need to find somebody at the company, like inferiorego. Comic Vine is essentially administered by the mods.

I understand what you're talking about, that at least in theory it would be a good thing to have an impartial person above the mods. However, there's not really anything we can do about that, the lack-of-staff ship sailed long ago. We can simply do our best as mods to make sure we are all working to make sure we are upholding proper ethical standards, and I believe that is what we do in fact do. I know there are rumors that go around about mods doing this or that. But to be honest I think those tend to be misunderstandings and at times intentional misrepresentations of the facts by users who have been banned, etc.

I got your PM and you can certainly communicate more with me there if you wish.

@tezzaanne: Look under the Editing and Tools forum for wiki info. But generally, only experienced users are allowed to add new issues, as far as I understand. Better to start off adding simpler info.

Maybe this should be updated with so many newer mods, and past ones gone? But I'd be more interested personally in seeing the best mods for helping with situations, most active etc as well. That would be helpful and useful. Even their schedules on the site as oppose to their personal hobbies. Nothing against that it's just I feel the former info would be more important.
