One panel in and there's already a cringey pop-culture reference.

That's how you know Spider-Man's hip; and by extension, Marvel's hip and know how to relate to their likewise hip fanbase. If it got any hipper they'd have to make Shakira become the new Kang.

Indeed indeed, as a millennial I find it impossible to relate to a comic unless hip and contemporary themes are hamfistedly interwoven into my story. It's why I refuse to read any DC books until they bring back Snapper Carr.

Good thing too, that detail crafted retro style cover really had me worried for a second.

I have nothing to add to any of this but it is all fan-fucking-tastic!

In my more recent readings, they have made Spider-Man's lines more of a groaner. He comes off as annoying as his teammates might see him. More so than a pop-culture reference though, Spider-Man talking about popular music has gotten pretty old. That said It doesn't really detract from the amazing panels that come after it.

Also shot out to these amazing Alex Ross covers. Sure the latest ASM series was doing nothing for me, so I dropped it, and ANAD Avengers start if off ...ungoodly, but Ross has been putting out the best covers of his career! Hopefully the stronger start of this Avengers series will be of quality worthy of these fantastic covers, and so far, it looks to be the case.

The cringiest part is when your best pop culture joke is a Shakira joke.

So I've been avoiding Marvel and just reading reviews, but I've always been intrigued by Kang. Can anybody tell me if the first issue of this Avengers line was good?

Thanks in advance.

I thought it was a pretty good issue, it definitely takes off much faster that the previous series. All you have to know, is that Vision decided to mess with Kang, and well...Kang not happy about that! So yeah pick up the first issue, it's a good jumping on point.

Sigh, time travel again.

Sigh, you complaining about Marvel again.
