The Best Stuff In Comics: 1-4-16

This is where we present to you, the other best stuff besides the best covers, best story arcs, and best breakfast value item.

Every week, we take a look at some of the most bizarre, exciting, and downright unique things to happen in comics. Check out our choices below of the strange and wacky things that shouldn't be overlooked from this week's releases.

There may be some teeny tiny spoilers below.

This does not include the select Marvel titles released on January 1, 2016.

DRAX #2

Best Surprise Turn to a Confrontation

You could probably safely assume anytime you see Drax pop up somewhere, he's going to get into a fight. While searching for Thanos (because he wants to fight him), Drax actually runs into Terrax, a former herald of Galactus.

Just as things are heating up, Terrax turns the tables.

Best Indication That Even Cosmic Beings Are People Too

Terrax has gone through some changes. He doesn't simply fight anyone just to be in a fight. He'll only fight for something he feels is worth fighting for (like he does later in the issue). We do see that hanging out in a bar and drinking too much can bring about some normal results you wouldn't expect to see in a cosmic being.

BATMAN AND ROBIN ETERNAL #13

Best Hug

We'll admit there were actually some other good hugs this week. This was one of the more touching ones. We're finding out how rough Cassandra Cain's upbringing was. She wasn't show any affection and was deprived of expressing her emotions as well. It was all about becoming the perfect fighting machine. When she first met Batman, he told her she didn't have to be like that and all she could do was give him a hug.

CHEWBACCA #5

Best Failed Negotiations

Trying to negotiate with a Wookie will go exactly as you would expect it to.

Best Surprise

One of the long-running discussions over Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope deals with the ceremony scene. After the destruction of the Death Star, Luke and Han both receive medals. Chewbacca is there but doesn't get one despite being on the Millennium Falcon with Han.

It turns out Chewie did get a medal. Perhaps he was just shy and didn't want to get it in front of everyone or maybe they realized after the fact he should get one too. Maybe Chewie just isn't really into medals and praise. In this issue, he gives the medal away, possibly because it clashes with his warrior vibe.

JAMES BOND #3

Best Display of a Bullet’s Impact

James has to take out a warehouse where a dangerous criminal gang is hanging out. We get to see how his bullets aren't just ordinary bullets (you can see more HERE).

ALL-NEW WOLVERINE #3

Best Surprise Move in a Fight

X-23 is now going by the name Wolverine. Like her namesake, she's the best there is at what she does. Even so, fighting someone like Taskmaster would be difficult since he can immediately mimic and counter anyone's moves. When Laura kicks him, it seems he was unaware she had claws in her foot.

We'll leave the results for you to check out for yourself.

Best Display of Thoughtfulness

Wolverine is in a discussion with one of her clones about why they don't just have to kill everyone. Laura says they could have a family and they should show some compassion. The clone points out that one soldier whose fingers were cut off could have been a classical pianist so where should the line of compassion be drawn. Later we see another clone gather up the fingers and put them by the soldier's side for when he wakes up, just in case he is a classical pianist.
